NatureHug in Tullymore Wood

Once Ireland was almost fully covered in native forest. Today, sadly, we are one of the least forested nations in Europe particularly when it comes to native species. We at NatureHug wish to redress this balance and Tullymore wood is the first of our new Irish forests.

Gold Crest at Tullymore Woods

Tullymore comes from the Gaelic 'Tulaigh Mhór' which means 'the big hillock'. At its peak, Tullymore is 90 meters above sea level affording outstanding views over the neighbouring countryside . Looking south there are spectacular views over Lough Melvin and Sheenun Mountain in Leitrim. To the west you can see Donegal and the Atlantic Ocean and to the east is a view of Callagheen Wind farm.

In January 2007 we will begin to plant the first phase of Tullymore wood with over 4000 natural native oak, ash and rowan trees. This will create a woodland ecosystem, which will sustain and attract biodiverse wildlife. We currently have badgers, hares foxes and deer on the farm. Planting native woodlands will foster the future prosperity of these animals.
